Stabilize Children in School
We make education a top priority at the Good Neighbor Center and make sure all school age children living with us are enrolled in school and ready to learn. Our staff works hard for our students -coordinating with schools to set up transportation and connecting with teachers and counselors. Our goal is to improve attendance, address academic or social needs, and give plenty of support during our students’ stay at the shelter.
During the school year, children are invited to attend our after school program which provides homework help, tutoring, and fun activities. In the summer time, the shelter runs a ten week Summer School program which offers children the opportunity to learn, grow, and play together in a supportive, enriching environment. Children participate in daily reading and math as well as special activities like art projects, science experiments, cooperative games and field trips.
