Evening Meal Providers (prepared for an average of 30 people)

  • Every evening meal is provided by a volunteer or volunteer group. Teen groups are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
  • The dinner can be made at home or prepared in our kitchen.
  • The food is put in serving dishes and dinner is set out.
  • Meal groups provide the meal, set out the food and ...the job is done!
  • Residents serve themselves buffet style in our dining room.
  • Volunteers are welcome to join residents for dinner.
  • Dinner starts at 6:00pm and ends at 7:00pm when residents' evening chores begin.
  • Please check the website for a list of meals provided the prior week.

Overnight Host

  • Overnight hosts relieve staff every night between 9:45pm and 10:00pm. First time hosts come at 9:30pm to tour the facility and get familiar with the procedure.
  • Two people sometimes team up – many people do it by themselves.
  • Age requirement is 21 or over – for teams at least one person needs to be 21 or over.
  • Hosts sleep in the living room on one of the comfortable sectional sofas or they can pull out the sofa bed. They usually bring their pillow and sleeping bag.
  • Hosts have the keys to the medicine room and the manual with emergency phone numbers. The manual includes fire escape routes and alarm particulars. It also lists names, ages, and rooms of residents in case of fire emergencies.
  • Resident adults are in their rooms by 10:00pm Sunday through Thursday and by 11:00pm on Friday and Saturday.
  • Staff arrives at 6:00am to open up and wake the host so that they can be on their way to start their day.

Special Projects

  • Call the Volunteer Coordinator for details of scheduled projects.
  • One scheduled project is shelter bedroom maintenance. Groups can adopt-a-room to paint and shampoo the rug. The Volunteer Coordinator has details.
