The Good Neighbor Center, a homeless family shelter in Tigard, provides a summer school program for children ages 5 to 14 who are staying in shelter. This program will begin June 10^th 2013 and will run Monday through Thursday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, for 10 weeks. The group size will range from 5 to 15 children.

 

The Good Neighbor Center summer intern will work with the Student Parent Advocate to plan and oversee fun and educational activities for school-age children. This includes curriculum planning for elementary and middle school levels.

 

The summer school program is very structured. In addition to helping with classroom activities, the intern will help supervise during weekly outings to the movie theater, local parks, a swimming pool, a community garden, and various field trips.

 

The Good Neighbor Center is seeking a responsible, organized, and energetic individual with an interest in education, family and human services, and/or homelessness. Ideally, this candidate would have some experience working with school-age children and with curriculum planning.
